Introducing the system tables SYS_SETTINGS and SYS_STORAGE

The sections Database Settings and Database Storage, part of the section Database Management, govern the critical system tables SYS_SETTINGS and SYS_STORAGE.

dsgn_database-management

These database tables contains a wide range of operational settings: these database parameters handle highly varied functionality.

Warning: starting with Efficy 11.2, most parameters were moved from the system table SYS_STORAGE to the equivalent system table SYS_SETTINGS!

Adding, modifying and deleting parameters

You wont find all listed parameters in your database but you can add them when you need to: the blank space at the bottom of the window allows you to do just that!

Click the Save button and re-enter the database settings or storage to add another parameter.

To modify a parameter, click its Edit button.

A larger window pops up so that you can edit the parameter or configuration object comfortably.

Make good use of the commands on the toolbar: there’s for instance an Undo button when you’ve made a mistake.

Warning: dont forget to click the Save button to save any changes you made!

Customizing the mobile app through SYS_STORAGE

Just about every aspect of the mobile app Efficy can be customized – from the colors of the user interface over enabling notifications to the data it displays.

dsgn_standard-mobile-app     dsgn_custom-mobile-app

This is done by modifying and adding the apps settings and style in the system table SYS_STORAGE! The following JSON configuration objects define the app’s look and behavior.

The developer mode enables you to complete and test customizations on your mobile device without any impact on the “regular” mobile users.

To transfer your validated customizations to the production app, copy the settings and style to the equivalent objects MobileSettings and MobileStyle.

Find the details in the manual Customizing the Mobile App.

Custom parameters in SYS_STORAGE

The system table SYS_STORAGE can contain custom parameters, parameters you wont find in the list of parameters above. Whether thats the case or not depends on the use of templates.

Templates in Efficy are a highly effective way of creating standard, professionally looking documents and e-mail messages that use data from the CRM database – the names of contacts, addresses of companies etc.

document templates: download the manual from our FTP site

The templates also ensure that the documents you generate from Efficy reflect your corporate identity. E-mail signatures, company logos, addresses, telephone numbers, web addresses (“URLs”) are therefore stored in the table SYS_STORAGE to apply your corporate style consistently to all documents and e-mail messages. The template tag [$GetStorage] allows to retrieve these style elements. When your style changes, some quick changes in that single table to, say, a corporate slogan or a web page with promotions, suffice to update all your templates at once!

Template scripts, called by the template tag [$RunScript], are also stored as “parameters” in SYS_STORAGE (or alternatively in a ServerJS module file).

dsgn_run-script

The parameter GridHTML – it does occur in our list of “standard” SYS_STORAGE parameters – also originates with templates.

It only applies when tables with linked items (“detail items”), for example all the products linked to a document or to a sales opportunity, are inserted in e-mail templates with the template tag [$GetHtmlTable]. GridHTML is the columndefs argument of that template tag, it contains the HTML column definition.
